Chamomile for anxious patients?
⚪ Clinical pearl: A placebo-controlled trial suggests chamomile is effective for mild to moderate Generalized Anxiety Disorder. In the study, patients taking chamomile capsules, dosed from 220 mg up to 1100 mg daily, showed significantly greater improvement on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale than those on placebo. Response rates were 57% for chamomile versus 38% for placebo. The study was small... but chamomile was well-tolerated. It can be considered a low harm and potentially helpful option for patients.
